The ZWG black market rate explained
What
The black market rate (also called the parallel or street rate) is the price at which foreign currency is traded between individuals and informal cash dealers, outside banks and licensed providers. It moves with day-to-day supply and demand.
Buy
What a dealer pays you for 1 USD. If you are selling dollars, you want the highest buy rate.
Sell
What a dealer charges you for 1 USD. If you are buying dollars, you want the lowest sell rate.
Gap
The gap to the official rate shows how far the street price sits from the bank rate. A wider gap usually means higher demand for dollars than supply through formal channels.
The difference between buy and sell is the dealer's spread. Rates are indicative: the price you get depends on the amount, the dealer and the moment.
