Access Holdings Plc has announced a pre-tax profit of N667.36 billion for the nine months ending September 2026, reflecting an 8.29% increase from N616.25 billion in the same period last year. Notably, the third quarter saw a remarkable recovery, with pre-tax profit soaring 78.43% to N253.23 billion compared to N141.92 billion in Q2 2026, although it still fell short of the N295.68 billion reported in Q3 2025.
This performance is particularly significant as it comes on the heels of a challenging second quarter, which had been impacted by regulatory delays in publishing financial results due to Central Bank of Nigeria approvals. The increase in profits can be attributed to a substantial reduction in impairment charges, which dropped 73.45% to N92.91 billion, providing a boost to earnings. Additionally, while interest income grew by 6.91%, the rise in funding costs limited the growth in net interest income to just 2.74%. This dynamic highlights the ongoing challenges faced by financial institutions in managing interest margins amid rising costs.
Looking ahead, investors will be keen to see how Access Holdings navigates the competitive landscape, especially with the absence of an interim dividend declaration. The stock's year-to-date performance is promising, up 39%, but it has experienced a 5.25% decline in the past month. Market participants will also monitor broader economic indicators and regulatory developments that could impact the banking sector's profitability and stability in Nigeria and across Africa.
