A new survey by CoinShares has revealed that affluent investors across seven major economies are not only holding digital assets but are also planning to increase their investments in cryptocurrencies. The survey, which included 2,230 investors with at least $500,000 in investable assets from the US, UK, France, Germany, Italy, Sweden, and Switzerland, found that around 10% of their portfolios are currently allocated to crypto. Notably, 85% of these investors intend to boost their crypto exposure in 2026, indicating a robust appetite for digital assets despite market fluctuations.
This trend highlights a significant shift in the investment landscape, as affluent investors demonstrate resilience in the face of market downturns. Interestingly, the survey showed that the recent crypto market sell-off prompted more investors to consider increasing their holdings rather than retreating. With Bitcoin remaining the most popular digital asset, owned by 80% of crypto investors on average, the findings suggest a growing confidence in the long-term potential of cryptocurrencies. Furthermore, younger investors are leading the charge, allocating more to digital assets than their older counterparts, which could signal a generational shift in investment strategies.
The disconnect between affluent investors and their financial advisers is particularly noteworthy. Many advisers remain cautious about digital assets, often lacking the knowledge or incentive to engage with this emerging asset class. This gap could lead to missed opportunities for advisers to provide valuable services related to crypto investments, such as tax and estate planning. As more affluent investors embrace digital assets, it will be crucial for financial professionals to adapt and educate themselves on the evolving landscape. Looking ahead, observers should watch for potential regulatory developments and how they may influence both investor sentiment and adviser strategies in the crypto space.
