Bitcoin and Ether ETFs Face $530M Outflows Amid Market Turmoil

In a dramatic turn of events, Bitcoin and Ether exchange-traded funds (ETFs) experienced a staggering $530 million in net outflows on Thursday. This followed a brief surge in prices after the recent US midterm elections, where Bitcoin had climbed above $80,000. However, as the cryptocurrency market corrected, Bitcoin fell back below $76,000, contributing to a significant decline in the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite, which dropped 5.5%—its most substantial single-day loss since April 2025.

The outflows were primarily driven by Fidelity’s Wise Origin Bitcoin Fund, which saw approximately $200 million withdrawn, and BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust, which recorded $105 million in outflows. This trend of withdrawals has been ongoing, with over $1 billion pulled from Bitcoin ETFs since the end of October. The current environment is particularly concerning for investors, as year-to-date net outflows for Bitcoin ETFs have now reached around $510 million. Analysts suggest that the recent sell-off could indicate a potential bottom for Bitcoin, especially as the Nasdaq appears poised for recovery.

Looking ahead, market participants should closely monitor both crypto and stock market trends, particularly in light of the upcoming economic indicators and Federal Reserve decisions. The current market dynamics differ significantly from the 2008 financial crisis, with stronger household balance sheets and banking systems. However, vulnerabilities remain in sectors like commercial real estate and private credit, which could impact investor sentiment. As the markets stabilize, the focus will be on whether Bitcoin can reclaim its previous highs and how regulatory developments might influence ETF flows in the coming weeks.
