British multinational Diageo Plc has revealed a significant financial setback, reporting a Sh5.57 billion loss from the sale of its stakes in East African Breweries Limited (EABL) and UDV Kenya Limited to Japan’s Asahi Group Holdings.
This loss suggests that Diageo valued these businesses higher than the sale price of Sh389.3 billion. The charge was disclosed to shareholders as part of the company's financials for the fiscal year ending June 2026.
Importantly, this loss is categorized as a non-operating item, meaning it does not impact the company's core operations related to production, marketing, and distribution.
