Ethereum's Glamsterdam Upgrade Set for Sepolia Testnet on October 6

Ethereum developers have announced that the Glamsterdam upgrade will be activated on the Sepolia testnet on October 6. This major upgrade is expected to bring several significant changes to the network.

One of the key features of Glamsterdam is the enshrined proposer-builder separation, which will streamline the process between specialized block builders and validators directly within Ethereum's protocol, reducing reliance on external middleware.

Additionally, the upgrade will introduce block-level access lists that will document the accounts and storage locations utilized during each block. This aims to enhance the efficiency and transparency of data access on the network.

Another important change involves the adjustment of gas pricing to better reflect the actual costs associated with creating and accessing data on Ethereum. Developers have advised that contracts relying on fixed gas stipends may need modifications in light of this update.

While the Sepolia testnet upgrade is set, developers have yet to confirm dates for its rollout on the validator-focused testnet Hoodi or the mainnet. Looking ahead, the Ethereum team is targeting 2027 for the next upgrade, Hegotá, which could mark a significant shift in the network's development focus.
