In a recent interview on Cointelegraph’s Chain Reaction, Christian Trummer, co-CEO of Bitpanda, revealed that European crypto users have developed a stronger trust in regulated firms since the introduction of the Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) framework. This regulatory initiative aims to create a safer environment for crypto transactions, and Trummer noted that many users prefer engaging with compliant platforms over managing their own private keys.
This shift in user sentiment is significant as it underscores the growing demand for regulatory clarity and security in the crypto space. Trummer pointed out that while the “Crypto Twitter” community often advocates for self-custody, the majority of users are more comfortable with regulated providers. This preference could lead to a more stable market, as users gravitate towards platforms that adhere to established regulations, potentially reducing the risks associated with unregulated firms.
Looking ahead, the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) is taking steps to enforce MiCA more strictly, particularly against unauthorized firms that continue to operate without compliance. As the enforcement of MiCA strengthens, it could reshape the competitive landscape of the crypto market in Europe, prompting non-compliant firms to either adapt or exit the market. This could also set a precedent for other regions considering similar regulatory frameworks, impacting global crypto trust and adoption.
