Infinity Trust Bank Reports 27% Surge in Pre-Tax Profit Amid Rising Interest Income

Infinity Trust Mortgage Bank Plc has reported a pre-tax profit of N2.76 billion for the nine months ending September 30, 2026, marking a 26.94% increase from N2.18 billion in the same period last year. This growth is attributed to a remarkable 41.51% rise in turnover, reaching N6.49 billion, largely fueled by stronger interest income from mortgage lending and treasury operations.

The bank's performance is particularly noteworthy given the backdrop of rising interest expenses and operational costs. While interest and similar expenses surged by 78.18% to N2.19 billion, the increase in net interest income by 43.55% to N3.70 billion highlights the bank's ability to effectively manage its lending operations. The growth in loans and advances to customers by 46.48% to N36.69 billion showcases a robust demand for mortgage products, which remains the primary revenue driver for the bank.

This financial performance is significant not only for Infinity Trust Bank but also for the broader African banking sector, as it reflects a growing appetite for mortgage lending amidst a challenging economic environment. The increase in interest income could indicate a trend among banks in the region to capitalize on rising lending rates, which may lead to increased competition for customer deposits. Investors should keep an eye on how rising operational costs and interest rates will impact profitability across the sector in the coming quarters, as well as potential regulatory changes that could affect lending practices.
