MetaMask Exits Lido Validators Amid Ongoing Security Investigation

MetaMask has announced its decision to exit Lido validators as it investigates a security incident impacting part of its infrastructure. The company reassured users that it has not identified any immediate threats to MetaMask wallets.

In a recent update, MetaMask stated that it is addressing the situation internally while collaborating with external partners and security advisors. The precautionary actions pertain specifically to validators involved in its non-custodial staking operations.

Lido confirmed that MetaMask Staking began the exit process for its Ethereum validators on Wednesday. The final validators are expected to complete their exits by October 7, which may result in lost rewards and potential downtime penalties.

According to Lido Finance developer Will Shannon, ETH that has exited from MetaMask-operated validators will gradually return to the protocol. This process could take up to 45 days due to an extended entry queue.

This is a developing story, and further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
