MTN Nigeria's Profits Surge 59.4% Amid Data Boom and Subscriber Growth

MTN Nigeria Communications Plc has reported an impressive 59.4% increase in pre-tax profit, reaching N1.80 trillion for the nine months ending September 30, 2026. This growth is attributed to a significant rise in data revenue, a burgeoning subscriber base, and enhanced operating margins. In the third quarter alone, pre-tax profit climbed 39.6% to N704.1 billion, reflecting the company's ongoing earnings momentum.

This remarkable performance comes at a time when the telecommunications sector is increasingly vital to Nigeria's economy. With a revenue increase of 23.6% to N4.61 trillion, MTN Nigeria's results underscore the growing demand for data services in a country where smartphone penetration is on the rise. The company's data revenue surged by 35.8%, now accounting for 58.5% of total service revenue, indicating a shift in consumer behavior towards digital communication and online services.

Looking ahead, investors should monitor MTN's continued investment in network infrastructure and its commitment to enhancing service offerings. The company's management has reaffirmed its medium-term guidance, projecting service revenue growth in the low-20% range and maintaining a robust EBITDA margin. As MTN Nigeria continues to expand its user base and improve its operational efficiency, it could serve as a bellwether for the broader telecommunications market in Africa, potentially influencing investor sentiment across the continent's stock markets.
