Nigeria Climbs to 8th in Bloomberg's Investment Risk Ranking Amid Economic Reforms

Nigeria has made significant strides in the Bloomberg Economics Investment Risk-O-Meter, climbing four positions to secure the 8th spot in the 2026 ranking. This improvement comes as the country has outperformed several of its regional peers, including Rwanda, Tanzania, Kenya, and Namibia, thanks to enhanced economic strength, fiscal stability, and reduced external vulnerability.

This ranking is crucial as it showcases Nigeria's potential as a viable investment destination, particularly in a continent where economic stability is often elusive. The Federal Government's ongoing reforms, initiated under President Bola Tinubu's administration, have focused on addressing long-standing issues in fiscal management, foreign exchange, and the power sector. Notably, the removal of gasoline subsidies and the liberalization of the foreign exchange market are steps aimed at stabilizing the economy and attracting foreign investments.

Looking ahead, investors will be keen to monitor Nigeria's economic trajectory, particularly in light of rising public debt, which has escalated from N87.38 trillion to N159.28 trillion within a short span. While the debt increase underscores fiscal challenges, the positive GDP growth trend—from 2.54% to 3.89%—suggests that Nigeria is on a path of gradual economic recovery. The coming months will be pivotal as the government continues to implement reforms and manage debt levels, which could further influence investor confidence and market dynamics across Africa.
