Nigerian Corporates Raise N446.1 Billion in Q3 2026 Commercial Paper Offers

During the third quarter of 2026, a total of 23 companies entered the Nigerian money market with commercial paper offers, aiming to raise a combined N446.1 billion across 43 series. This activity reflects a continued reliance on short-term debt instruments by corporates to fulfill working capital requirements.

Nairametrics Research has analyzed the commercial paper offers, issuer disclosures, and FMDQ market records published from July to September 2026. The ten largest offers alone targeted N350 billion, representing 78.5% of the total commercial paper issuance for the quarter.

Among these offers, two were structured as non-interest commercial papers under a Murabahah arrangement, providing Shariah-compliant alternatives for investors. This indicates a growing trend towards diverse financing options in the Nigerian market.

The largest offers included notable issuers such as Sunny Owo Ventures Nigeria Limited, which targeted N50 billion, and Johnvents Industries Limited, which sought N30 billion. The proceeds from these issuances were primarily allocated for short-term working capital financing, underscoring the importance of liquidity for these businesses.

The analysis highlights the dynamic nature of the Nigerian commercial paper market, showcasing the increasing participation of corporates in seeking short-term financing solutions to support their operational needs.
