Nigeria's N13.79 Trillion November Inflows: Implications for Markets Ahead

Nigeria’s financial system is anticipating a significant liquidity boost of approximately N13.79 trillion in November 2026, primarily fueled by Open Market Operations (OMO) maturities and government disbursements. This projection marks a 2.16% increase from the previous month, indicating a robust financial environment as the country navigates its economic landscape.

The Financial Markets Dealers Association (FMDA) attributes this increase to a moderation in the Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN) liquidity mop-up operations, which has led to a notable rise in banking-system liquidity. In October, liquidity surged by 56.75%, reflecting a shift in the CBN's strategy as it reduced its absorption of excess liquidity through OMO securities. This change is crucial as it suggests a more accommodating monetary policy that could stimulate investment and spending.

Looking ahead, the anticipated inflows could bolster demand for short-term securities, particularly if the CBN continues its selective auction allotments. However, the impact on yields will largely hinge on the volume of new securities issued and investor appetite. Market participants should closely monitor the upcoming Monetary Policy Committee meeting, as any changes in the Monetary Policy Rate could further influence liquidity conditions and investor behavior in the Nigerian market.
