OG.com Seeks CFTC Approval for Single-Stock Perpetual Futures

OG.com, a newly independent platform spun out from Crypto.com, is seeking approval from the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) to introduce perpetual futures linked to individual US stocks. This move aligns with a growing trend among trading platforms to expand derivatives offerings in the US equity markets.

In a recent filing, OG.com proposed rules for cash-settled single-stock futures that would trade 24/7 without expiration. This innovative product allows traders to maintain exposure indefinitely, a concept that has gained popularity in the crypto space since its inception by BitMEX in 2016.

Following its spin-off, OG.com secured an equity investment from Robinhood, enhancing its capabilities as a derivatives exchange. The platform is valued at $5 billion and aims to broaden its services beyond prediction markets to include futures and perpetual contracts.

OG.com is part of a larger movement, with other platforms like Coinbase and Kraken also seeking regulatory approval for similar products. This push comes amid ongoing regulatory developments from US agencies, including the SEC and CFTC, which are adapting to the evolving landscape of crypto and derivatives trading.

As the CFTC lays the groundwork for perpetual futures, the regulatory environment is becoming more accommodating, allowing for innovative trading solutions in both the crypto and traditional stock markets.
