OpenAI Eyes $30B Funding Round, Valuation Could Soar to $1.4 Trillion

OpenAI, the developer behind ChatGPT, is in discussions to raise an additional $30 billion from investors, which could elevate its valuation to an impressive $1.4 trillion. This new funding round reflects strong investor interest and could position OpenAI among the world's most valuable companies even before its public debut.

According to a Bloomberg report, this proposed valuation marks a significant increase of approximately 64% from OpenAI's previous valuation of $852 billion in March, when it raised $122 billion. The company is currently navigating its long-awaited public market entry, which is now pushed to 2027 at the earliest.

CEO Sam Altman has indicated that going public in 2026 would be "ill-advised" as the company prioritizes AI safety. Earlier this month, he addressed the United Nations Security Council, highlighting the risks associated with powerful AI systems.

As OpenAI focuses on its future, rival Anthropic is moving forward with plans for an IPO this year, which could value the company at over $2 trillion, showcasing the competitive landscape in the AI sector.
