Public Companies Surge in Blockchain Revenue, Doubling Their Market Share

A recent report from crypto investment firm 1kx indicates that public companies have significantly increased their share of blockchain revenue, rising from 7% in 2022 to 16% in 2026. This growth is attributed to a combination of new stock market listings, such as stablecoin issuer Circle, and the revenue expansion of existing players. Notably, the ten largest publicly traded companies in the blockchain space have doubled their revenue over the past three years, underscoring a trend of institutional adoption and real-world application of blockchain technology.

This increase in revenue share is particularly significant given that overall blockchain revenue is projected to decline by 28% year-over-year, reaching approximately $100 billion in 2026. The report highlights that revenue is becoming increasingly concentrated among a small number of firms, with the six largest companies accounting for 50% to 60% of the total revenue. This trend raises questions about market sustainability and the potential for smaller firms to compete in an increasingly centralized landscape.

Looking ahead, stakeholders should monitor how institutional players continue to shape the blockchain landscape, especially as revenue from real-world applications surpasses that from infrastructure for the first time. With tokenized assets and payments gaining traction, the projected 30% share of blockchain revenue from these sectors in 2026 could signal a shift in how blockchain technology is utilized globally. Investors and companies alike will need to adapt to these changes to remain competitive in the evolving market.
