SEC Unveils Capital Market Master Plan 2.0 to Enhance Retail Investor Access

The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is gearing up to launch its new Capital Market Master Plan 2.0 at the 2026 National Capital Market Conference in Abuja. This initiative aims to broaden retail investor participation and utilize technology to enhance market access across various income demographics.

Alongside the Master Plan, the SEC will introduce the National Savings Scheme, a platform designed to facilitate retail participation in the capital market. The conference will feature notable attendees, including Vice-President Senator Kashim Shettima and Finance Minister Taiwo Oyedele.

The Master Plan 2.0 builds upon the original 10-year plan initiated in 2014, which was revised in 2022 to adapt to market dynamics and financial technology advancements. This new version emphasizes retail democratization, aiming to extend capital market access beyond institutional investors.

SEC Director-General Dr. Emomotimi Agama highlighted that the National Savings Scheme will serve as an inclusion tool, offering all Nigerians the opportunity to save and invest. Tax incentives will be integrated into the scheme to encourage participation, aligning with the government's fiscal policies.

The upcoming conference will also feature presentations from Capital Market Committee Technical Working Groups and the inauguration of various committees to ensure effective implementation of the Master Plan. This strategic shift underscores the SEC's commitment to financial inclusion and sustainable capital market growth.
