The Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) has experienced a significant boost in revenue during the first half of 2026, reaching Sh11.6 billion. This surge is attributed to increased passenger and freight traffic.
Passenger revenue alone rose by 14.6%, climbing to Sh2.37 billion compared to Sh2.07 billion in the same period last year, according to data from the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics.
The uptick in traffic highlights the growing reliance on the SGR for both passenger and cargo transport, reflecting a positive trend for the railway's financial performance.
