The Zano blockchain has undergone a significant rollback, reverting to block 3,833,000, just before the introduction of Hard Fork 6. This decision comes in response to a vulnerability associated with the recently implemented Gateway Addresses feature.
This exploit allowed unauthorized ZANO and Freedom Dollar tokens to enter circulation, prompting the core team to invalidate a month's worth of legitimate transactions. As a result, transactions made during this period will no longer be recognized on the recovered chain.
Zano's head of marketing, Quinten van Welzen, emphasized the importance of this action, stating that failing to address the issue would have compromised the integrity of the currency by diluting its supply. The team is currently working on a reimbursement and claims process for affected users.
The Gateway Addresses feature was designed to streamline fund management for exchanges and payment services. However, it inadvertently introduced vulnerabilities that Zano is now addressing as part of its recovery efforts.
While the rollback sacrifices a month of blockchain history, Zano aims to restore trust and maintain the fixed supply that users expect. The team acknowledges the challenges ahead but believes this move is essential for the project's future.
