Zvilo Group Targets €2 Billion Financing in Africa by 2030, Boosting SMEs

Zvilo Group Ltd., a European trade-finance firm, has announced ambitious plans to make Africa its largest market by 2030, with a target of €2 billion in annual financing. The company, which specializes in providing trade finance and working capital to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), aims to significantly increase its presence across nine African countries, including Nigeria and South Africa. CEO Peter Maila revealed these plans during an interview with Bloomberg, emphasizing that sub-Saharan Africa will account for 60% of their loan book by the end of the decade.

This expansion is significant not only for Zvilo but also for the broader African economy. By focusing on SMEs, which are vital for job creation and economic growth, Zvilo is tapping into a crucial segment of the market that often struggles to secure financing. The firm has already disbursed over €450 million to approximately 3,900 businesses globally and aims to increase this number to 15,000 by 2030. With large corporations in sectors like mining and retail relying on a network of smaller suppliers, Zvilo's model of providing early payments for invoices could alleviate cash flow issues for these SMEs, enabling them to thrive.

Looking ahead, investors and stakeholders should monitor Zvilo’s progress as it establishes offices in key markets like Nigeria and Kenya. This expansion aligns with a broader trend of increasing foreign investment in African businesses, as seen with initiatives from the British International Investment and other financial institutions. As these foreign entities deepen their commitment to African markets, the potential for economic growth and stability in the region could enhance investor confidence, impacting currency and stock markets across the continent.
