ECOBANK TRANSNATIONAL INCORPORATED
Ecobank Transnational Incorporated (ETI) was founded in 1985 as a pivotal initiative by the Federation of West African Chambers of Commerce, aiming to establish a private regional banking institution to address the financial needs of West African entrepreneurs. ETI was incorporated with an authorized capital of $100 million, largely funded by over 1,500 investors from across West Africa, with the ECOWAS Fund for Cooperation, Compensation and Development emerging as its largest shareholder. A Headquarters Agreement signed with the Government of Togo in the same year granted ETI international organization status, facilitating its role as a regional financial institution. The institution's primary objective is to build a world-class pan-African bank and contribute to the economic and financial integration and development of the African continent, starting with its first subsidiary opening in Togo in March 1988. ETI operates as a leading independent pan-African banking group, offering a full suite of banking products and services that encompass wholesale, retail, investment, and transaction banking. It serves a diverse clientele including governments, financial institutions, multinational corporations, international organizations, and individuals, as well as medium, small, and micro businesses. Core offerings include payment transactions, deposit and lending services, online banking, currency exchange, and microfinance solutions. The Ecobank Group maintains a comprehensive footprint across 35 African countries and holds a banking license in France, complemented by representative offices in global financial hubs such as Addis Ababa, Johannesburg, Beijing, London, and Dubai. Key subsidiaries include Ecobank Development Corporation (EDC), which focuses on investment banking and advisory services, and eProcess International, which manages the Group's centralized IT operations. The group structures its operations through divisions such as Consumer Banking, Commercial Banking, and Corporate and Investment Banking.
