Dangote Cement PLC, a subsidiary of the larger Dangote Group, traces its origins to 1981 when Aliko Dangote founded a trading business focused initially on importing bagged cement and other commodities into Nigeria. Over time, the company transitioned from a trading operation to a fully integrated manufacturing entity, a strategic decision formalized in the 1990s. Obajana Cement Plc, incorporated in 1992, became a foundational component, with its flagship Obajana Cement Plant commencing operations in 2007. The company officially adopted the name Dangote Cement Plc in July 2010 and subsequently listed on the Nigerian Stock Exchange in October 2010, following a merger with Benue Cement Company. The core business of Dangote Cement involves the manufacture, preparation, and distribution of a range of cement products, serving as a fully integrated quarry-to-customer producer. Its product portfolio includes various grades like 32.5R CEM II, 42.5R (3X) CEM II-AL (marketed as "Dangote 3X Cement" for its enhanced properties), and 52.5 CEM I, available in bags and bulk tankers. Headquartered in Lagos, Nigeria, the company operates across two strategic regions: Nigeria and Pan-Africa. Its extensive operations span ten African countries, with integrated plants and import terminals in nations such as Cameroon, Congo, Ethiopia, Ghana, Senegal, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Tanzania, and Zambia. Notable subsidiaries include Dangote Cement South Africa (Pty) Limited and Dangote Cement (Ethiopia) Plc.
