About MAY & BAKER NIGERIA PLC.

May & Baker Nigeria Plc traces its origins to Grimwade, May & Pickett, a chemical manufacturing firm established in England in 1834. The Nigerian entity, May & Baker (West Africa) Limited, was incorporated as a private limited liability company on September 4, 1944, initially focusing on the distribution of pharmaceutical products imported from its parent company in the United Kingdom. The company evolved to commence local drug manufacturing in Nigeria in 1976, establishing a factory in Ikeja and subsequently changing its name to May & Baker Nigeria Limited. Following indigenization decrees, the UK parent relinquished a majority equity stake in 1979, and the company transitioned to public ownership. It officially became May & Baker Nigeria Plc upon its listing on the Nigerian Stock Exchange on November 10, 1994, and stands today as the sole entity retaining the original May & Baker name after its former European parent underwent various mergers and acquisitions. The company operates as a diversified group, primarily engaged in the manufacturing, marketing, sales, and distribution of human pharmaceuticals, vaccines, medical equipment, diagnostics, and consumer healthcare products. Its extensive pharmaceutical portfolio encompasses a wide range of therapeutic classes, including analgesics, anti-inflammatory agents, antibacterials, antimalarials, anti-diabetics, anti-hypertensives, and cough and cold remedies, featuring key brands like M&B Paracetamol. Beyond pharmaceuticals, May & Baker Nigeria also manufactures consumer goods such as Lily Water, a bottled water brand, and Smartans hand and surface sanitizers. The company serves the Nigerian market with an extensive distribution network, maintaining depots across major geographic regions, and holds a vision to expand its presence as a leading healthcare brand throughout Sub-Saharan Africa. Its operations are structured around pharmaceutical and beverages business units, complemented by key subsidiaries including Biovaccines Nigeria Limited (a joint venture with the Federal Government for local vaccine production), Osworth Nigeria Limited (focusing on marketing and sales of pharmaceuticals, medical devices, and consumer products), Servisure Nigeria Limited (a brand-owning healthcare services company), and Tydipacks Nigeria Limited (specializing in healthcare and industrial packaging).
